March 14th, 2018, Google has officially announced it would ban advertising for cryptocurrencies and ICOs, confirming the rumours that have been spreading in the crypto industry over the past time. The new policy is coming into effect in June and is a part of a clampdown against unregulated financial products.

Not only this ban concerns cryptocurrencies and Initial Coin Offering, but also exchanges and wallets. According to Google’s director of sustainable ads, Scott Spenser: “We updated several policies to address ads in unregulated or speculative financial products like binary options, cryptocurrency, foreign exchange markets and contracts for difference (or CFDs).” The restriction will apply both to Google’s proprietary and affiliated advertisement platforms.

We remind that the similar bans have been made by Facebook in January, when the most popular social network banned all crypto and ICO ads, as the company believed that those were being used to scam the investors.
